Marcus Canning, Director, CEO - ARTRAGE Inc.

Canning’s work covers an interrelated terrain of festival, event and venue programming, production and design.

Since 2002 Canning has been Director / CEO of ARTRAGE Inc., one of Australia’s most dynamic multi-disciplinary arts organisations.

During his time with Artrage he has directed the Artrage Festivals 2002 - 2008, the Northbridge Festivals 2005-2008 and overseen the establishment and build of The Bakery Artrage Complex alongside Artrage’s launch of a Perth Fringe Festival in 2011.

He has sat on the Australia Council’s New Media Arts Board (2002–05), chaired the federal DCITA Festivals Australia Committee (2002–07), been a peer on the Australia Council Theatre Board and sat on the Healthway Arts Advisory Committee, DCA Arts Panel, Brisbane Festival UTR Committee, WATDI Panel and the Jump National Advisory Committee. In 2006 he won the City of Perth Award for contribution to the life of the City at the WA Business News 40 under 40 Awards.

As a practicing artist, his most high-profile (and at 18m, the largest) work to date is the St. George’s Sculpture Commission, installed between church (St. George’s Cathedral) and state (Council House) in the centre of Perth in 2010.
