Ian Booth, Chief Executive - Screen West
Ian Booth commenced his current position as Chief Executive of ScreenWest in May 2007, taking on the role during a period of great expansion in the Western Australian film industry.
In the past year three years production levels in WA have doubled, and the forecast level of production is likely to continue to increase in 20010/11. In this time, Western Australia has recently hosted feature film projects including the critically and commercially successful Bran Nue Dae, Blame, Mad Bastards and Red Dog; award-winning tele-drama with The Circuit, 3 Acts of Murder and Cloudstreet, and once again achieving accolades for its outstanding children’s television production with Tim Winton’s television-adaptation, Lockie Leonard, Dogstar and international co-production Stormworld, along with documentaries including Who Do You Think You Are?, Surviving Mumbai and Navy Divers.
Ian stepped into the role from co-producing the adult drama series Marx and Venus delivered to SBS in early 2007 and the half hour drama Hidden Creatures, which screened across the international festival circuit.
Ian’s previous position at the ABC in Melbourne as Business Affairs Manager for Drama and Comedy, saw him working on projects including Kath & Kim, MDA, The Glasshouse, Enough Rope, The Shark Net, Marking Time and many others. Prior to the ABC he was the Business Affairs Manager at ScreenWest.
On returning to Western Australia in mid 2003, Ian set up his own practice as a solicitor practising primarily in film and television law. He has also established the production company Sassafras Films.
He is a former Board member of the Film and Television Institute, Awesome Arts, and a former adjunct senior lecturer for the WA Screen Academy.
